<p><strong>Dr. Syam Sudhakar</strong>, a bilingual poet who writes in English and Malayalam, won the 2022 Srinivas Rayaprol Poetry Prize. A lecturer in English Literature at the St. Thomas College, Thrissur, he was chosen from among 114 entries received this year by a jury consisting of the noted poet, Mani Rao and two faculty members of the Department of English, University of Hyderabad.</p>



<p>Syam, a doctorate in English Literature from the University of Madras, has published widely, performed readings at home and abroad, and won several awards. His poems have been translated into Tamil, Hindi, Bengali, Chinese and French. He has six poetry collections to his credit, including&nbsp;<em>Drenched by the Sun</em>&nbsp;(2013),&nbsp;<em>Slicing the Moon</em>&nbsp;(a bilingual video, 2013), and&nbsp;<em>AvasanatheKollimeen</em>&nbsp;(The Last Meteor, 2014). He has edited an anthology in English titled&nbsp;<em>Shakespeare in the Age of Covid-19: Poems and Flash Fiction by Young Indians</em>&nbsp;(2020) and four anthologies in Malayalam.</p>



<p>Noting what she called the ‘epic vision’ of Syam Sudhakar, the poet Mani Rao complimented him for the way he ‘stacks and links images effortlessly, restoring our awareness of the world as a creative project.’</p>



<p>Recognised as a significant award for creative writing in India, the&nbsp;<strong>Srinivas Rayaprol Poetry Prize</strong>&nbsp;was instituted by the Hyderabad-based&nbsp;<strong>Srinivas Rayaprol Literary Trust</strong>&nbsp;to recognize excellence in poetry written in English by poets in the age group of 20-40 years.&nbsp; The Prize is jointly administered by the&nbsp;<strong>Department of English, University of Hyderabad</strong>.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>The inaugural prize was awarded in 2009 to Aditi Machado and in 2021 to Pervin Saket.&nbsp; Eminent poets like Jeet Thayil, Sudeep Sen, Keki Daruwalla, Arundhati Subramanian, K. Srilata, Manohar Shetty, Arvind Krishna Mehrotra, Ranjit Hoskote, Vivek Narayanan, E.V. Ramakrishnan, Gieve Patel, Mamang Dai and Vinay Dharwadker have been associated with the prize as jury members. The award, consisting of a citation and cash prize of Rs. 15,000 will be presented to the winner at a literary event to be held soon.</p>

<p><strong>Pervin Saket</strong>, a Pune-based writer and poet, is the winner of the 2021 Srinivas Rayaprol Poetry Prize.&nbsp; Selected from a field of about 80 talented contestants from across the country by a distinguished jury consisting of Vinay Dharwadker, author and Professor of English Literature at University of Wisconsin-Madison and two faculty members of the Department of English, University of Hyderabad, &nbsp;Pervin will be the 13<sup>th</sup>&nbsp;recipient of the prestigious literary award. Krishnakumar Sankaran and Kinshuk Gupta were among those shortlisted for the prize.</p>



<p>Pervin is the author of the novel ‘Urmila’ and of a collection of poetry ‘A Tinge of Turmeric’. She was awarded the inaugural fellowship for the Vancouver Manuscript Intensive 2021. Pervin co-founded the annual Dum Pukht Writers&#8217; Workshop in 2016. She is also the Poetry Editor at The&nbsp;<em>Bombay Literary Magazine</em>&nbsp;and Managing Editor at&nbsp;<em>The Quarantine Train</em>&nbsp;– a Writing Collective. Her novel has been adapted into a dance drama featuring the classical dance forms of Kathak, Bharatnatyam and Odissi. Her short fiction, poetry and nonfiction have been featured in&nbsp;<em>The Indian Quarterly</em>,&nbsp;<em>Paris Lit Up</em>,&nbsp;<em>Singapore Unbound</em>,&nbsp;<em>Usawa Literary Review</em>,&nbsp;<em>Tiferet Journal</em>,&nbsp;<em>Borderless Journal</em>,&nbsp;<em>The Joao-Roque Literary Journal</em>,&nbsp;<em>The Madras Courier</em>,&nbsp;<em>Alipore Post</em>,&nbsp;<em>Cold Noon</em>,&nbsp;<em>Breaking the Bow</em>&nbsp;and others.</p>

<p>Entries are invited from Indian citizens between 20-40 years of age and writing poetry in English for the thirteenth <b>Srinivas Rayaprol Poetry Prize</b>.</p>
<p>The Prize was instituted by the <b>Srinivas Rayaprol Literary Trust </b>to recognize excellence in poetry written in English and is being administered jointly by the <b>Department of English, University of Hyderabad</b>.  The prize consisting of a cash award of <b>Rs.15,000</b> and a citation will be presented at a literary event, the schedule for which will be announced in due course of time. The entries will be judged by a distinguished jury of poets and literary personalities.</p>
<p><b>Entries must include:</b></p>
<p>1.   Three (3) different, <b>unpublished</b> poems written by the applicant; Please put all the three poems in <b>one </b><b>single</b> word or pdf document and not separate files. Do not send zip folders. The id proof must be a separate file and not part of the poetry.</p>
<p>2.   Evidence of age; (scanned copies of passport, driver&#8217;s license, pan card, or any other valid id)</p>
<p>3.   Complete contact information (including phone numbers and email addresses).</p>
<p><strong><u>Note</u>: Please do not put your name on the poems to be submitted to the jury members.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Entries must reach by <span style="text-decoration: underline;">email only</span>, latest by September 4, 2021. Please do not send hard copies by post.</strong></p>

<p><strong>Satya Dash</strong>,a 29-year old poet and independent artist based in Bangalore, has been chosen for the 12th Srinivas Rayaprol Poetry Prize. Dash, who grew up in Cuttack, Odisha, was selected from a field of 180 contestants from all over the country by a jury consisting of the well-known poet and writer, <strong>Mamang Dai</strong>, and two faculty members from the Department of English, University of Hyderabad.  Huzaifa Pandit, Stuti Pachisia, and Pervin Saket are the other poets who made it to the jury’s shortlist.</p>
<p>Satya Dash&#8217;s poems have appeared in <em>Waxwing, Wildness, Redivider, Passages North, The Journal, The Florida Review, Prelude, The Cortland Review, Hobart, Poetry@Sangam,</em> among others. Apart from having a degree in electronics from BITS Pilani-Goa, he has also been a cricket commentator. He has been nominated for Best New Poets, Best of the Net, and Orison Anthology.</p>
<p>Recognised as a significant award for creative writing in India, the <strong>Srinivas Rayaprol Poetry Prize</strong> was instituted by the Hyderabad-based <strong>Srinivas Rayaprol Literary Trust</strong> to recognize excellence in poetry written in English by poets in the age group of 20-40 years.  The Prize is jointly administered by the <strong>Department of English, University of Hyderabad.</strong></p>
<p>The inaugural prize was awarded in 2009 to Aditi Machado and, subsequently, to Hemant Mohapatra (2010), Aditi Rao (2011), Tushar Jain (2012), Mihir Vatsa (2013), and Ranjani Murali (2014), Aishwarya Iyer (2015), Goirick Brahmachari (2016), Debarshi Mitra (2017), Poorna Swami (2018), and Prashant Parvataneni (2019).  Eminent poets like Jeet Thayil, Sudeep Sen, Keki Daruwalla, Arundhati Subramanian, Manohar Shetty, Arvind Krishna Mehrotra, Ranjit Hoskote, E.V. Ramakrishnan, and Gieve Patel have been associated with the prize as jury members. The award, consisting of a citation and cash prize of Rs. 15,000 will be presented to the winner at a literary event to be held online.</p>

<p>The Prize was instituted by the <b>Srinivas Rayaprol Literary Trust </b>to recognize excellence in poetry written in English and is being administered jointly by the <b>Department of English, University of Hyderabad</b>.&nbsp;&nbsp;The prize consisting of a cash award of&nbsp;<b>Rs.15,000</b> and a citation will be presented at a literary event in Hyderabad in the month of October 2020.&nbsp;&nbsp;The entries will be judged by a distinguished jury of poets and literary personalities.</p>
<p><b>Entries must include:</b></p>
<p>1.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Three (3) different,&nbsp;<b>unpublished</b>&nbsp;poems written by the applicant; Please put all the three poems in <b>one&nbsp;</b><b>single</b> word or pdf document and not separate files. Do not send zip folders. The id proof must be a separate file and not part of the poetry.</p>
<p>2.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Evidence of age; (scanned copies of passport, driver&#8217;s license, pan card, or any other valid id)</p>

<p><a href="https://www.facebook.com/prashantp92">Prashant Parvataneni</a>, a 27-year old independent writer and artist based in Bangalore, won the 11<sup>th</sup>&nbsp;Srinivas Rayaprol Poetry Prize (2019). He was chosen for the prestigious prize from a field of 170 contestants from around the country by a jury consisting of the eminent poet, playwright, and artist, Dr. Gieve Patel and two faculty members of the University of Hyderabad. Aashika Suresh and Shabnam Parveen were identified as being on the shortlist.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">Prashant is part of a collective called brown-study which works towards developing forms of thinking and experimenting with artistic texts and experiences. As a researcher and translator, he also works with the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/ajabshahar/">Kabir Project</a> at the Srishti Institute of Art on an online archive of poems from Sufi and Bhakti traditions. His articles on art and cinema have appeared in magazines like&nbsp;<em>Seminar</em>,&nbsp;<em>The Bangalore Review</em>, and&nbsp;<em>Deep Focus Cinema</em>. As a facilitator, he teaches short- and long-term courses on literature and cinema in colleges across Bangalore. Through his various creative and critical pursuits, Prashant is interested in understanding the place of art in life and politics. He believes after Dostoevsky that &#8216;beauty will save the world&#8217;.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">Recognised as a significant award for creative writing in India, the Srinivas Rayaprol Poetry Prize was instituted by the Hyderabad-based Srinivas Rayaprol Literary Trust to recognize excellence in poetry written in English by poets in the age group of 20-40 years.&nbsp; The prize is jointly administered by the <a href="https://www.uohyd.ac.in/index.php/academics/2011-10-27-18-38-04/school-of-humanities/dept-english">Department of English, University of Hyderabad</a>.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">The inaugural prize was awarded in 2009 to Aditi Machado and, subsequently, to Hemant Mohapatra (2010), Aditi Rao (2011), Tushar Jain (2012), Mihir Vatsa (2013), and Ranjani Murali (2014), Aishwarya Iyer (2015), Goirick Brahmachari (2016), Debarshi Mitra (2017), and Poorna Swami (2018).&nbsp; Eminent poets like Jeet Thayil, Sudeep Sen, Keki Daruwalla, Arundhati Subramanian, Manohar Shetty, Arvind Krishna Mehrotra, Ranjit Hoskote, and E.V. Ramakrishnan have been associated with the prize as jury members. The award, consisting of a citation and cash prize of Rs.15,000 will be presented to the winner at a literary event to be held in Hyderabad.</p>

<p>Entries are invited from Indian citizens between 20-40 years and writing poetry in English for the eleventh <b>Srinivas Rayaprol Poetry Prize</b>.</p>
<p>The Prize was instituted by the <b>Srinivas Rayaprol Literary Trust </b>to recognize excellence in poetry written in English and is being administered jointly by the <b>Department of English, University of Hyderabad</b>.  The prize consisting of a cash award of <b>Rs.15,000</b> and a citation will be presented at a literary event in Hyderabad in the month of October 2019.  The entries will be judged by a distinguished jury of poets and literary personalities.</p>
<p><b>Entries must include:</b></p>
<p>1.   Three (3) different, <b>unpublished</b> poems written by the applicant; Please put all the three poems in <b>one </b><b>single</b> word or pdf document and not separate files. Do not send zip folders. The id proof must be a separate file and not part of the poetry.</p>
<p>2.   Evidence of age; (scanned copies of passport, driver&#8217;s license, pan card, or any other valid id)</p>
<p>3.   Complete contact information (including phone numbers and email addresses).</p>
<p><u>Note</u>: Please do not put your name on the poems to be submitted to the jury members.</p>
